humphead wrasse at the national marine aquarium‘Bentley’ the humphead wrasse is helping to dispel the common myth that fish have short-term memory. Keepers at the National Marine Aquarium have trained Bentley to come to the top of his aquarium in response to the noise of banging a gate to a neighbouring pen. This enables the keepers to easily trap him so that he can be checked regularly and be easily treated if he ever needs it.

First captive born Manta dies

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium has been succeeding in keeping the Manta Rays (Manta birostris) since November, 1988. On June 16, 2007 they finally observed the birth of a baby Manta, believed to be the first Giant Manta Ray to be born in captivity. The baby Manta was a female and measured at 1.9m in width.
